Description:

It is an organizational tool. It is an online version of putting tasks on post it notes and organizing them on a large board. The "notes" can be organized in sub categories, assigned to people, dates added, colour coded for importance or level of completion, and more details added on a pull down menu.

Advantages:

1.      It is very easy to use.

2.      If a task is assigned to someone, and you make a change, they will receive an email.

Disadvantages or Challenges:

1.      The free version does have some limitations, like number of boards and how well it links to a calendar.

2.      It is meant to replace an in person white board of immediate tasks. Doesn't do a great job with long term or multilevel tasks.

Ease of Use:

Very easy, it is mainly just drag and click.

Learning Strategy:

This uses visual encoding. Putting ideas or tasks on different colours squares allows the student to see how they are related.

Pedagogical function:

This tool allows for the constructive approach. The teacher will lay the information out for them, but it allows students to make changes and move the post its around.

What Situation(s) is it Best Used For?:

For education it can be used in a couple of different ways. A teacher can list all the learning objectives, assignments, and tests for the course. Dates can be added and as things are complete they can moved to a different category. It may be easier for a visual student to see the course structure on the boards.  Another way to use this is as the start of a brainstorming session that will lead to groups taking on different individual tasks.
