Description:

It is a video conferencing tool. Became very popular during the pandemic for work, educational,  and social purposes.

Advantages:

1.      Messaging function with ‘hand up’ while people are talking allows for questions without interrupting.

2.      Ability to share screen.

3.      Breakout rooms for small groups to colaborate.

4.      The interaction features make it more valuable than just a webinar.

5.      Calls can be recorded.

6.     Can be used for large groups.

Disadvantages or Challenges:

1.       Not everyone likes video conferencing with cameras on.

2.      Does stream as nicely with other products the way Microsoft teams does, but doesn't require a subscription to Office 360.

3.      Not secure.

Level of Expertise Required (Instructor and students):

Low, but some computer literacy is required.

Ease of Use:

Very easy.

Learning Strategy:

This technology is a way to use all the learning strategies when the class can not be together. With the breakout rooms, it can even accomplish peer instruction.

Pedagogical function:

Again, this technology allows for any method to be used. While it is not exactly the same as being in a classroom or lab, it is flexible enough that the teacher can use any of the pedagogical approaches.

What Situation(s) is it Best Used For?:

It is great for teaching new software. The teacher can show their screen to the students as they perform a feature. If a student has trouble following along on their own computer, they can then share their screen to the teacher to determine the issue.

Accessibility Concerns:

It is a visual tool.
